Predatory Journals: a new paper just out in Nature

Predatory journals: no definition, no defence

Leading scholars and publishers from ten countries have agreed a definition of predatory publishing that can protect scholarship. It took 12 hours of discussion, 18 questions and 3 rounds to reach. A new paper is now out in Nature.

In the article, predatory journals are defined as being driven by self-interest, usually financial, at the expense of scholarship, and as being characterized by following: False or misleading information; Deviation from best editorial and publication practices; Lack of transparency; Aggressive, indiscriminate solicitation.
