This Brown Bag Lunch Discussion will highlight the central role of integrated approaches for achieving the SDGs including through the work of the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and the Environment, SOURCE International, and the joint Swedish Environmental Protection Agency – UNDP Environmental Governance Programme (EGP).

We will hear from David Boyd, UN Special Rapporteur, on the links between human rights, environment and sustainable development, and the moral, legal and practical benefits of taking a holistic approach to address these inseparable issues. He will also speak about the importance of a having global recognition for the right to a healthy and sustainable environment.

SOURCE International will share a case study from Peru illustrating how participatory environmental monitoring in the mining sector can
advance progress across multiple SDGs while ensuring the right to a healthy environment. Flaviano Bianchini will unpack how development
programming and human rights-based approaches can complement one another.
