Pietro Battiston

Background

Pietro Battiston is an economist with a background in Mathematics and a passion for computer programming. He holds a PhD in Economics from University of Milan-Bicocca, and in 2022 he has joined the Department of Economics and Management of University of Pisa, where he is an associate professor.

He has been a visiting PhD student in Central European University, Budapest, and visiting researcher at Barnard College, New York.

Research interests

His main research interests are experimental and behavioral economics, together with network theory, approaches that he has applied to multiple issues, including of environmental and fiscal sustainability.

He has published empirical, experimental and theoretical works in international journals including the Scandinavian Journal and
Economics, Health Policy, World Development, Games and Economic Behavior and Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization.

In 2021, he has published the book “La responsabilità di rete. Network, economia e società” (Il Mulino), translated in English in 2025 as “Contagion and the Responsibility of Networks From Pandemics to Financial Crises and Fake News” (Routledge).
